Researchers from Durham University in the UK and the German Fraunhofer Institute have created a material “Proteus”, which cannot be cut. Description of the development has published the scientific journal Scientific Reports.

When you try to saw “presisely” material it emits waves, the damaging saw blades or knives. Features of this material are due to its internal structure. It consists of ceramic spheres which are inside the structure from the honeycomb of aluminium. In this regard, drills can penetrate through the upper layers, however, begin to zataplivaja upon reaching the ceramic spheres.

Then small particles of ceramic dust fills the gaps in the metal structure, causing cut material becomes more difficult, and the speed only enhances the effect.

It is noted that the material showed its effectiveness against water torches high-pressure. The spherical shape of the ceramic elements expands the water jet, and “blunts” even a “blade”.

Proteus has a density within 15 percent of the density of steel. As scientists believe, the material can be used for lightweight armor, indestructible bike locks and protective clothing.

In June the specialists of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (Spbpu) Peter the Great has developed the material from which it is possible to produce miniature batteries. Scientists have created an energy source based on the lithium nikeeta. In order for the resulting material to have the required thickness, they used a special method of molecular layering substance.
