– In the immediate vicinity of the Alexander Land the First Bay and the Bellingshausen expedition discovered the depression in the 800 meters, while the surrounding depths, on average, about 200 meters, – said in PRO.
According to the head of the expedition, captain first rank Oleg Osipov, who leads RIA Novosti, the bottom of the Bellingshausen sea near the coast has a large number of deep longitudinal furrows. They apparently left the sliding icebergs and glaciers.
Recall the research vessel “Admiral Vladimir” returned to the base of the Russian Navy in Kronstadt from round the world campaign on 8 June. The expedition was timed to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica by Russian sailors and the 250th anniversary of the birth of Admiral Ivan Kruzenshtern. For six months the ship has passed more than 40 thousand nautical miles – about 74 thousand kilometers.
