In Russia for the first time conducted laboratory testing of aviation components of the integrated power system based on a single high temperature superconducting (HTS) platforms, according to the Foundation for advanced studies (DRF).

The platform consists of batteries, high-temperature superconducting cable high-temperature superconducting current limiting devices and high-temperature superconducting motor. The tests demonstrated the ability to provide the power of the engine solely through specially designed batteries high power.

The development is planned to be used in the experimental aircraft hybrid powerplant (GSU), are working in the Central Institute of aviation motors. Testing of GSU in the composition of the flying laboratory is scheduled for the 2020-2021 years.

In August 2019 edition of Aviation Week reported that in the framework of the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Motor Demonstrator (ASuMED), coordinated by the German company Oswald Elektromotoren with the support of the European Horizon 2020 programme, is created ready for tests prototype of a fully superconducting aircraft engine.

A joint project of FPI and “Superox” to create a motor based on HTS began in December of 2016. In the framework of the elaboration of experimental samples of the power plant with the capacity of 50 kilowatts and 500 kilowatts, intended for installation on a fully electric aircraft.
