Russia entered the top five countries with highest defense spending

The largest global volume of military spending over the last decade was marked in the world in 2019 year. It amounted to 1,917 trillion dollars, which is 3.6% more than in 2018. Such data contains in published on Monday the report of the Stockholm international Institute for peace studies (SIPRI).

Russia was among the top five countries with the largest defense spending. By the end of 2019, the year she took the fourth position: military spending increased by 4.5% and amounted to 65.1 billion dollars, writes TASS. Earlier, in 2017-2018, Russia’s military spending was reduced and the defense budget last year to 61.4 billion dollars, which put the country in sixth place in the rankings.

According to SIPRI researcher Alexandra Kuimova, last year, our country increased the costs of providing the activities of the Armed Forces and national guard, as well as on social support of employees and their families, and more.

In the first five also were USA (732 billion U.S. dollars), China (261), India (71,1) and Saudi Arabia (61,9). These countries, including Russia, accounted for 62% of total military spending in the world.
