The film adaptation of Kim Thúy’s novel Ru got off to a very good start over the weekend. According to data provided by distributor Immina Films and producer Amalga, the film would have accumulated revenues of more than $250,000.
The film, written by Jacques Davidts and directed by Charles-Olivier Michaud, is an adaptation of Kim Thúy’s first autobiographical novel, published in October 2009 by Libre Expression and published in 43 countries since.
Ru the film focuses on the journey of the young Vietnamese Tinh and her family, who leave their country by boat to go to Malaysia, initially, before emigrating to Quebec. The film focuses on their new life.
