Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Soviet Constitution was a “time bomb” on the right of exit of republics from the USSR. The TV channel Russia 1, the head of state said that such things should avoid Russia, RIA Novosti reported.

According to him, this “Leninist thesis” was laid in 1922, with the formation of the Soviet Union.

“I am absolutely convinced that we are right to accept the amendments to the current Constitution. They will strengthen our state, to create the conditions for sustained development of our country in the decades ahead,” Putin said.

4 July in Russia came into force the amended Constitution with the amendments approved by popular vote. The majority of Russians supported the amendments — 77,92% of voters. Among the amendments was the priority of the law over international, the state’s obligation at least once a year to index pensions, the amendments with references to God and the state-forming Russian people, and the right of the incumbent President be re-elected for a new term.
