President Vladimir Putin said that Russia did not acquire Crimea — the Peninsula has always belonged to her. He said this in an interview for the film “Russia. The Kremlin. Putin” on TV channel “Russia-1”, reports TASS.

“first, Crimea has always been ours, even from a legal point of view. Secondly, we have not purchased. The people living in Crimea decided to reunite with Russia”, — said Putin and added that this is “the highest degree of manifestation of democracy.”

The Russian leader has urged to respect the choice of Crimean people.

Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after held on the Peninsula the referendum. Ukraine considers this occupation.
