President Vladimir Putin congratulated on the 85th anniversary of Soviet and Russian actor, people’s artist of Russia Vasily Livanov. The telegram published Sunday on the website of the Kremlin.

"Man is bright and generous talent, you are a true luminary of the national cinema. Your acting, your creativity has earned you the highest professional recognition, and most importantly – a sincere, enduring love of audiences of different generations", – said in the telegram.

People’s artist of the RSFSR, writer, Director Vasily Livanov was born July 19, 1935. The actor starred in more than 40 films, among them "Colleagues" based on the novel by Vasily Aksenov (1962, directed by Alexei Sakharov), "the captivating Star of happiness" (1975, Vladimir Motyl), "Yaroslavna, Queen of France" (1978, Igor Maslennikov). Fame not only in the USSR but throughout the world, Vasily Livanov for his role of detective Sherlock Holmes in a series of television movies "Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson," the detective works of Arthur Conan Doyle (1979-1986, Igor Maslennikov).

Besides working in movies, Vasily Livanov spent a lot of time to the scoring of the characters from the cartoon. His voice saying Carlson, Gena the crocodile, a boa constrictor from the painting "38 parrots" Gromozeka of "Secrets of the third planet".

For the big contribution to development of national cinema and many years of creative activity Livanov was awarded the order "For merits before Fatherland" grade IV, for merits in development of domestic culture and art received the medal of Honor.
