Researchers from the Computational robotics lab in Switzerland presented a robot sculptor. He can create shapes using a hot wire.

The robot has two manipulators. They are placed in the wire. Sometimes it heats up with electricity. Due to this, the robot can cut even complex shapes, deforming the wire, as required. The principle of operation of the device is clearly visible in the video:

It is reported that scientists have previously modeled the exact shape of the wire at each movement of the manipulators. The robot is also capable of changing the degree of tension of the wire. It the program first obtains a shape of the object that it is necessary to make, and then calculates the desired trajectory of motion. In addition, the program is able at each step to calculate the current deviation from the ideal shape and adjust it, creating a new set of trajectories.
