Pompeo called Guido and expressed his support

WASHINGTON, 28 APR – RIA Novosti. U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo called the Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guido, who previously illegally declared himself the interim President of Venezuela and the States which support it.

Pompeo and Guido also discussed the so-called settlement plan in Venezuela, which has offered US and which involves the withdrawal of the legitimate President Nicolas Maduro, the interim government and holding elections, in which Maduro will not be able to run. Maduro himself on such a plan do not agree.

In Venezuela at the beginning of 2019 began mass protests against President Nicolas Maduro shortly after the oath of office. Juan Guido, head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, declared himself interim head of state. A number of Western countries led by the US announced its recognition of Guido. In turn, Maduro called the head of the Parliament a puppet of the US. Russia, China, Turkey and several other countries have supported Maduro as the legitimate President.
