The pre-crisis level is still a long way off – but hospitality sales in Germany continued to rise in March.

As calculated by the Federal Statistical Office, sales in the industry rose by 6.2 percent from February to March of the current year, adjusted for price. According to the Wiesbaden authority on Tuesday, there was an increase of 114.8 percent compared to March 2021, when hotels, guesthouses and restaurants were severely affected by restrictions due to the corona pandemic.

However, how much catching up companies still have to do can be seen if you compare the values with February 2020, the month before the outbreak of the pandemic in Germany. In March 2022, revenues were 27.7% below the level at that time.

After the low of the previous year, the industry caught up a lot in the first quarter as a whole: From January to March 2022, hospitality sales were 111.2 percent (real) and 120.4 percent (nominal) above the values of the previous year.
