The Ukrainian language should be the only state in the country and the second official language should be English, said in an interview with “Ukrainian truth” head of the national security Council and defence of Ukraine (NSDC) Alexey Danilov. Thus, according to him, Russian could not be the second language as “he “don’t need to know”.

Earlier, the Kyiv international Institute of sociology (KIIS) presented the data of the opinion poll, according to which almost half of Ukrainians (48,8%) considers the Russian language historical heritage of Ukraine, which need to be developed. The law also provides for the right English speaking children taught in their mother tongue up to grade 5, after which at least 80% of teaching time will be in the Ukrainian language. In this case, for children who speak the language of the EU countries, the proportion of teaching will be increased from 20 to 60% by 9th grade.

As noted by UNIAN, this law, the Ukrainian language is defined as the only official language in the country, determining the persons who are obliged to speak the state language and to apply it during the performance of official duties. Speech, in particular, goes about the country’s leadership, deputies, judges, prosecutors, employees of the national Bank, the persons of officers who undergo military service under the contract. The list also includes teachers, doctors of state and municipal institutions of health care.
