Former Bayern star Xabi Alonso almost became coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2021. Some media had even reported the deal as Marco Rose’s successor as perfect. But now the Spaniard is back on the market.

It’s over in the summer: The Spanish world star Xabi Alonso (40) has officially ended his first coaching job after three years and is quitting as coach of the second team at Real Sociedad San Sebastian, as reported by “Sport-Bild”. The former Bayern Munich star is not extending his expiring contract.

Waiting for a job: Now world and European champion Alonso is apparently waiting for offers from big clubs. Some clubs in the Bundesliga are still looking for a new coach. Lucien Favre is still the top favorite in Mönchengladbach, but at least Hertha BSC and Augsburg are still looking. After the relegation, Berlin’s manager Fredi Bobic announced that he would present a successor to Felix Magath “in the next few days”. Would Alonso take on the Hertha challenge?

Bundesliga or Bruges? According to “Sport-Bild”, a track also leads to Bruges, where a coach is missing after Alfred Schreuder left the club for Amsterdam to succeed Erik ten Hag, who in turn will become the new coach at Manchester United.
