Even a drastic measures changes in the plans in the world of cycling.

One of the world’s biggest cycling race, the Giro d’italia, starts not on schedule 9. may in Hungary, where the race’s first three stages would be run.

It stated in a press release.

“As a response to the spread of the coronavirus has the government of Hungary declared a state of emergency. It prohibits the planning of major events and makes it impossible to plan international events,” stated the press release.

“As a consequence, the organizational committee for the Giro d’italia’s Hungarian stage stated that the Giro’s start can’t be held in Hungary at the scheduled time (…) RCS Sport (which organises the Giro d’italia, ed.) have taken stock of the international and national situation and declares that the date for the Giro d’Italia 2020 hereby is deferred.”

the Start should be given in Budapest, and was scheduled to finish in Milan on 31. may. A city that also is badly affected by corona virus.

the Giro d’italia is one of the kalenderårets three major grand tours along with the Tour de France and Vuelta a España.

Etapeløbet is among other things a big target for Jakob Fuglsang, who has declared that he would put up with the ambitions in the general classification. But now, it is uncertain how and whether the course are held at all.

Cyclists, fans and the rest of the cycling world may well arm themselves with patience in the relationship to find out what to do with the race.

the press Release mentions that there will be a new start for race 3. april.

Until then all sports suspended in Italy.

Last year, it was Richard Carapaz from Ecuador, as the race with the overall victory.
