People will be able to protect against radiation on the moon and Mars, building a dwelling at a depth of about a meter, told RIA Novosti head of the Department of radiation safety of manned space flight Institute of biomedical problems of RAS Vyacheslav Shurshakov.

"To protect the moon and Mars from galactic cosmic rays a person should be spudded to a depth greater than 70 centimeters. If the depth is smaller, then the radiation dose on the contrary will be more," he said.

"It is necessary to bury with the mind, about a meter. Or use any of the caves or the craters on the moon" — the scientist has added.
