Hollywood actor Ray Liotta has died unexpectedly at the age of 67. The former GoodFellas star was in the Dominican Republic for a film shoot.

Ray Liotta died in his sleep on Thursday in the Dominican Republic, reports the celebrity portal “TMZ”, citing a source close to the actor. He was there filming the film “Dangerous Waters” and was with his fiancé, Jacy Nittolo.

Liotta got his big break in 1990 in the award-winning role of gangster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s legendary mafia drama GoodFellas, opposite Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci. The book adaptation was nominated for six Oscars, and Pesci took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

“GoodFellas” was the role of his life, but the Newark, New Jersey-born full-blooded actor was also seen in other Hollywood successes such as “Field of Dreams”, “Cop Land”, “Corrina Corrina” or “Blow”. After his heyday in the 1990s, Liotta often acted in B movies in the new millennium, roles in major Hollywood productions became rarer.
