The European Union’s relationship with China will be one of the priorities of the German presidency of the Council of the EU, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"I consider our presidency as a chance to develop Europe further as a viable, United and formed a force that takes on the responsibility for peace and security in the world. Against this background, for example, Europe’s relations with China will be one of the foreign policy priorities of our EU presidency. The European Union is of great strategic interest to actively shape relations with China, one of the most important actors of this century", – said Merkel, speaking in the event of the Fund named after Konrad Adenauer, presenting the goals of Germany in the upcoming EU presidency.

She noted that Berlin hopes to conclude an investment agreement with China by which the parties have many years of negotiating. Merkel added that it is "ambitious".
