Russia should remain a presidential Republic, but the amendments to the Constitution will enhance the role of Parliament. So says the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. He noted that in particular, the role of the state Duma in the formation of the government will be much more significant. In addition, the amendments are aimed at the extension of the principle of separation of powers.

“the whole Constitution is a legal and a political document, so even rules that affect the economy, they still contain a powerful political message,” said Medvedev, reports TASS.

He also believes that the proposed amendments to the Constitution “aims to strengthen the labour rights of citizens, to fix the principle of indexation, to establish targeted support, assistance to large families”.
