Matvienko has congratulated citizens of Russia on the Day of cosmonautics

The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko congratulated the Russians on the cosmonautics Day, according to the website of the upper house.

“it has been almost 60 years since the triumphant flight of the first cosmonaut in the world Yuri Gagarin. April 12, 1961 the world saw the spiritual power of our people, the high level and the powerful potential of science, technology and production. This epochal event allowed Russia to take the position of a leader in the field of space technology and became a momentous milestone in world history.

The history of domestic cosmonautics is filled with examples of heroism of the conquerors of the Universe. We feel a sense of pride in the talent and courage of our compatriots, who managed to translate into reality the dream of millions of people who have made a step forward in the development of our civilization. For decades activity in the field of manned space flight, rocketry and satellite systems is one of the key places in the geopolitics of the Russian Federation as the most important factor in determining its status as a great power. Sure a huge production and human resources, implementation of national and international programs will allow our state to continue to maintain the leading position in the global space industry.

A special word of respect and gratitude to the veterans of the space industry, all professional and labor groups, whose responsible and challenging work is associated with the comprehension of space. This is a huge, invaluable contribution to modern science, the acquisition of new knowledge that we can pass on to our descendants,” — said in greeting.

Cosmonautics day —a memorable date, celebrated since 1962 in honor of the first manned flight into space, which made the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on 12 April 1961.

This day marks the international day of human flight into space, the United Nations declared in 2011.
