President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting with the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin in Minsk said that during the election campaign in the Republic happen “strange things”. He also stressed that Belarus is close to Russia “regardless of the will of the politicians.” “I think one on one we will exchange some opinions and questions. Election of the President of Belarus will be held on 9 August.Earlier, election Commission of Belarus refused to register candidates, two competitors of Mr. Lukashenko, who is running for a sixth term,— Victor Babariko and Valery Tsepkalo. This decision has caused mass protests. The ex-head of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko has been in custody since June 18, he is accused of financial crimes. The Kremlin has said that Russia does not interfere in the elections of the President of Belarus.
