Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said that before the election of the head of state intends to update the composition of their government. According to him, this is the tradition of his country, and he’s not going to break it. However, he does not know, will leave the Cabinet at his own request or decision.

a strange Tradition: all over the world it is assumed that the first candidate wins the election and then represents their government. Lukashenko, in his words, intends to show “the goods” on the eve of elections. Like, people should know who is going to realize their dreams.

“Not agree” with the words Lukashenko and the history of the government of Belarus – was not long before this tradition, is still the resignation of the Cabinet was not connected with the elections. Why Lukashenka decided on personnel changes, and how things are going with his campaign, “MK” has found out from the experts:

Alexey Jerman, Belarusian political scientist, head of the Center for the study and development of continental integration “Northern Eurasia”:

– This is done in order to draw a line under the previous period of socio-economic development and to identify the prospects for the future five years, if we are talking about the election. The voters will show that the authorities have their fingers on the pulse, takes into account all their achievements and failures and moving forward.

the Change of government in Belarus is a token of a course correction. The country entered into a protracted economic crisis, have problems in relations with Russia… So changes are needed.

If to speak directly about elections, the current election cycle differs from the previous lack of strong leaders of the opposition, which is supported by the West. But there are two nominees from the establishment: the financier Victor Babariko and former diplomat, member of IT Valery Tsepkalo. If Tsepkalo is a former ally of Lukashenko, Babariko is considered a protege of big Russian capital, before such was not.

But I wouldn’t say that if the threat to Lukashenko came from the West, now it comes from the East. In General, all Russia’s attempts to put on alternative to Lukashenko in advance can be considered a failure, but a kind of stimulus a candidate can be.

In the life of every political leader has the UPS and downs of popularity. It is unlikely that today Lukashenka is at the bottom of their electoral support. Maybe because of the crisis it crashes, but nuclear electorate in the 35-40% still loyal to the President of Belarus. It is important to increase the weight hesitant to draw, to tear away something from the opponents and so on. Lukashenko will easily gain a majority, while 70% support it will be hard to collect.

Andrey Dmitriev, the candidate in presidents of Belarus:

– the Idea is to bring the item before the elections and give some hope to the business of reform. Generally Lukashenko before every election promise of reforms and immediately after the victory he said: “If you voted for me, so many people, so the people are satisfied and do not need reform”.

In this sense, changes in the government do not play a big role. To change the situation the government should become more self-reliant: he needs to give the right to make decisions, the right to argue and so on. In Belarus, the Cabinet of Ministers only have the right to carry, but since he gives orders to one and the same person, from someone who is a Minister or a Prime Minister changes nothing. How many “paste” whatever you say, my mouth will not become sweeter.

feel the current attempt of re-election is not as smooth as the previous one. The majority of Belarusians would like to have the question of power in the country was resolved peacefully. The politicization of society significantly increased. The policy has come even businessmen, which was held just at a safe distance, and even doubled it just in case. Came the many ordinary people who don’t understand how they continue to live. Naturally, this creates difficulties for “elegant victory”.

Andrey Suzdaltsev, political analyst:

Lukashenka behaves as if he already won the presidential election and it is time to move on. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sergei Rumas in 2018 has brought in the government the best team in the history of Belarus. Their goal was the salvation of the country in the event of a rupture with Russia. But this team could not work under Lukashenko.

Now Rumasa will make a “scapegoat”. In particular, it will hang the failure of suppression of coronavirus. If at first Lukashenko said he did not want to shut down the country, so as to save the economy, now the economy has fallen on average by 7%, and some industry by 10% in the first quarter of 2020. And people caught a lot, the official statistics no one believes.

from the beginning of collection of signatures, the people running to support opposition candidates. There is a suspicion that the President of Belarus runs into a protest vote. He is willing to defend themselves voluntarily from power, he is not going to leave.

however, the country continues to operate formula of power, in which the Republic should rule the person who is able to secure economic support from Russia. The last 2 years, Lukashenko has just destroyed relations with Moscow. Accordingly, there are people who are ready to replace it. In particular, such a person is the presidential candidate Victor Babariko.
