The Central election Commission of Belarus as of evening on may 14 received 34 applications from those wishing to become President of a former Soviet Republic. Among them, the current Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

The Constitution of Belarus and the Electoral code contain rules under which the right to be elected President of the Republic has “citizens of Belarus by birth”, not younger than 35 years with the right to vote, permanently residing in the Republic not less than 10 years immediately before the election and with no criminal record.

Wishing to become a candidate must present the election Commission his passport, and to provide the documents. It includes: a written application for registration of the initiative groups of at least 100 people; the list of initiative group members (in printed and electronic form); copy of passport pages proof of citizenship of Belarus and registered in the territory of the Republic.

Documents to be submitted prior to may 15. As at 20.00 these conditions 34.

Among the applicants are citizens with previous convictions who find it necessary to obtain a refusal. Also applied to pensioners from different regions, farmers, a former banker, a machinist of pumping units, the cutting material, the operating nurse and representatives of other activities as well as the unemployed. Among those who want to become presidents appear four citizens belonging to four different political parties.
