After 52 years of marriage had Lis Thomassens Tuesday to say goodbye to her husband of five meters distance, wearing a mask and gloves.

“It was terrible.”

So the card can Lis Thomassen describe it, when she today, try to put words in the parting, which she Tuesday had with her husband by 52 years, Manfred Thomassen, who died after being tested positive for covid-19.

“I am sure that he was infected at the hospital. I actually have no doubt,” claim Lis Thomassen, before she puts the words on the illness, her husband has been through.

“Friday last week he came home from the hospital in Holstebro, on the M3, where he had been hospitalized with something else. Saturday he was so bad again, that he knew nothing, and he ends up being hospitalized again. Sunday call and tells that he has been tested positive for the corona,” says Lis Thomassen.

And just at the department M3 in Holstebro Hospital has, according to Dagbladet Holstebro-Struer, in the first instance be referred to the story, had big problems with covid-19 among the staff.

“He has not at any time been in contact with other than me and then the nurses on the M3, so where would he otherwise have been infected,” continues Lis Thomassen and adds, that he also was not without a door between Friday and Saturday, where he briefly was printed.

Manfred Thomassens condition was aggravated in the course of Monday and Tuesday, called the from the regional hospital in Herning, where patients with covid-19 in the Region of central Jutland is admitted.

the Message was clear. Lis Thomassen and her two daughters to come to the hospital as soon as possible.

“I drove down there with my girl and stood by his bed in five hours. Finally I could not stand up longer, and so I drove home. But I did almost not check at the door, before they again called from the hospital and told that he was dead,” says Lis Thomassen on her husband, who was 74 years old, and adds:

“It’s terrible that I could not say properly goodbye. It is the cursed disease.”

on Saturday, she’ll be able to say goodbye one more time, when Manfred Thomassen must bisættes. It is, however, with the restrictions, which are for the time being, and it is not something that as how to generate Lis Thomassen.

But life as a widow is certainly not fun after 52 years of marriage, tells Lis Thomassen.

“It’s terrible,” she replies shortly.

B. T. has spoken with Jens Friis Bak, who is medical director at Hospitalsenheden the West in the Region of Midtjylland.

He confirms that it is possible that Manfred Thomassen has been infected during his hospitalization at the hospital.

“We are a hospital that is very hard hit with 5-10 times as many inpatients as the other hospitals in the region. Our area has the largest number of corona infections,” he says, and continues:

“Because we have so many additional cases of ill that requires additional complicated and demanding treatment, the risk is greater, so the answer is ‘yes’. It is clear that it is possible he may have become infected with us.”

Should you be afraid of being hospitalized with you, if you suffer from something other than corona?

“No, you don’t need to. I’m at the hospital every day, and I feel safe. We have a close eye on all inpatients and to pay attention to whether they exhibit symptoms, then covid-19 is a very sneaky disease. But it is clear that one can get infected, like you can, when you walk on the streets.”

you Ought to instead, so do not treat all patients as if they have corona for the sake of security?

“It can’t be done, as we simply do not have unlimited resources for it. The protective equipment we now even have, to be used in the right situations,” says Jens Friis Bak.

He continues:

“But I would like to stress that we have taken – and will take – all the precautions we need to. It is a very difficult situation – also for our staff, who suddenly have to work a lot more than they usually do, and which should be retrained and learn new processes on the ultra short time.”
