the Decision to dismiss the government as a whole was taken amid mass protests that began after a devastating explosion in the port of Beirut, which killed over 150 people. According to Diab, the government are unable to cope with “endemic corruption” and this was the cause of the emergency. He accused the previous government that they from the first days of the existence of his Cabinet tried to impose on him the responsibility for their mistakes and crisis in the country and eventually turned the people against him.

“We want to open doors on the path of national salvation of our country,” said Diab, explaining why the government took such a decision.

the Cabinet of technocrats was formed on January 21 and received a vote of confidence on February 11. In recent months, he tried to correct the inherited situation, to bring the country out of the crisis, by adopting emergency measures, but negotiations with the IMF for assistance have failed. The explosion was the last straw in the bowl of discontent of the Lebanese people.

it is Worth noting that the previous government of Saad Hariri, too, resigned in October 2019 against the backdrop of protests over rising prices, the ongoing economic recession, high public debt, high unemployment. Now the situation was worsened by the pandemic coronavirus that caused severe damage to the tourism industry of Lebanon.
