Military actions in Donbass had a strong influence on the mentality of the locals and led to the formation of their "language war", told RIA "news" senior researcher of the southern scientific center of RAS Tatiana vlaskina.

In the region in 2018 was undertaken ethno-linguistic study by scientists of the SSC RAS, southern Federal and Donetsk national universities. Experts interviewed local people, explored written sources, social networks, and sites alerts, where information about attacks and other problems in the region.

According to Vlaskina, it was found that local residents often use in their speech words-onomatopoeia, where the sounds of war are described accurately and specifically. For example, the word "sue", denoting a blow, shaking the earth.

The language also introduces a metaphor, e.g. "dropped a truckload of bricks" – powerful single explosion, "beat the carpets" – often firing from a mortar. Drones have been called names flying fairy characters – "Carlson", "whack", "Tinker bell".

Researchers have identified hundreds of words and expressions, showing a profound change in the Outlook of people living in conflict. In particular such expressions as "world war", "silence is frightening the unknown is stronger than the roar", which, according to vlaskina, talking about the psychological trauma.

She noted that the language of war in the region continues to develop.

In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk national republics (LNR and DNR), which declared independence after a coup in Ukraine in February of the same year. Between the parties to the conflict is still ongoing skirmishes, despite the signed ceasefire agreement.
