German actor Rainer Basedow has died at the age of 83. This is reported by the “Bild” newspaper, citing his family. Basedow fell asleep surrounded by his relatives. Before that, he was in a clinic for three days. According to the report, Basedow died as a result of a serious illness.

Basedow played in German productions such as “Tatort” (ARD), “Coast Guard” (ZDF) or “Der Bulle von Tölz” (see picture). He also became known to a wide audience in the 1970s as Sergeant Dimpfelmoser in the film adaptation of “Räuber Hotzenplotz”. In the animated film “The Lion King” he voiced the pig Pumbaa.

Basedow grew up in Thuringia. However, he escaped from the GDR to West Germany. There he first studied teaching in Braunschweig. But then he went to an acting school in Munich.
