Irina Romanovna, you did not really saw any country in its path. No luck?

Irina Zagorodnikova: how lucky! I’ve seen a lot: the African coast, where he embarked, penguins and sea lions, the stunning sunrises and sunsets. Breathtaking from the beauty: just me and the ocean, the heart was ready to jump with delight.

I swam in the ocean with whales, studied navigation by the stars stood watch at the helm, knitting knots, and climbed to the top of the ship to the 48-foot mast.

Sea sickness did not torture?

Irina Zagorodnikova: Only on the first day. But I took a pill for motion sickness, and all passed.

do you have experience of going sailing?

Irina Zagorodnikova: No. I learned everything on Board, even the competition passed in sailing business.

Let’s remind the readers how you got to the frigate.

Irina Zagorodnikova: I am fond of postcrossing is exchanging postcards with people around the world, and began to write the book on how to operate carriers in different countries. The Internet saw a video of circumnavigation sail training ship “Pallada”. And decided to ask, so I sent postcards from each port where you want to go our sailboat. Began to call the organizers, even the captain in Vladivostok found. And he took it and asked me to go. I took in interns.

Deck swabbing?

Irina Zagorodnikova (laughs): Only to be photographed. Duties to do cleaning, washing and Ironing, we did not have, did it voluntarily assisted the students. Interns – it’s older people who are already working. We were attracted mainly for thematic projects.

How did you know that the beach is closed?

Irina Zagorodnikova: March 17, I flew from Astrakhan to Cape town to join the expedition: the frigate was in the way for 4.5 months. And already on March 18, South Africa closed the air. Being in the ocean, and I even could not imagine that the earth at this time close the border. After all, no Internet, no telephone connection in the ocean there. Every three days you can send emails to relatives via satellite. So we’re on the ship knew very little about the situation with coronavirus. But on 1 April, when, having rounded southern Africa, the frigate headed toward the island of Mauritius, the captain announced that we pass by without entering the port. It was a shock. First, we have almost a month did not see land, and secondly, a planned from Mauritius to fly home. According to the original route of the “Pallada” had to go to the Japanese port of Nagasaki, in Brunei, but we went without stops to the port of registry Vladivostok.

what about supply of food, water, fuel, finally?

Irina SecoursCova: Inventory allowed the ship to go another month to Singapore. Products shipped in containers cargo booms of “Pallada”. Food was enough, we have a wonderful cook – she even baked us cakes. By the way, the ship was several doctors, including a dentist. Since we never went on Board the virus was not: it was the safest place on the planet! I’m just worried about the health of their families in Astrakhan: husband, children, grandchildren.

And went on a world tour again?

Irina Zagorodnikova: of Course! I went on “Pallada” from South Africa to Vladivostok – a third of the globe, 77 days and nights. I still dream of the ocean. I’m taking photos and videos and I catch myself thinking that my soul is still there. On Board of “Pallada” met his 64th birthday, that was great.

the Frigate Pallada, owned by far Eastern state technical fisheries University, considered one of the best training sailing craft in modern Russia. Every year he makes 4 – 5 sailings and invites to your deck not only the students, but also travellers looking to test themselves in the ship case. In the nearly 30-year history of “Pallada” has made three trips around the world, today, called “Sail the world”, was organized by the Agency for the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Russian sailors Antarctica and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the great Patriotic war.
