In Veliky Novgorod, discovered the first five birch bark letters this season. One of the findings was ensured the will of the citizen, according to the Institute of archaeology RAS.
Excavations were conducted at the Sofia embankment. At the dig near the Novgorod Academic theatre have been discovered the traces of an ancient manor. There archeologists found the first season birch bark on two sheets. It was a draft of the will. In fact, the document was made on three sheets, but the beginning of the will was lost.
the Author of the will ordered his heirs to collect debts. In the letter listed that the man owed money, salt, meat and grain. Moreover, the two debtors were set address – street Chernitsyna in the Lyudin end, which is just South of the Kremlin.
In the same manor, the archaeologists found four letters, which some can relate to the late XIV – early XV century. Certificates are not transfered completely, according to preliminary data, we are talking about the scraps of business letters.
