U.S. senators introduced a resolution against the recreation of the G8 with the participation of Russia. It is reported TASS with reference to the press service of the author of the initiative, Deputy leader of the democratic minority in the upper house of the legislature, dick Durbin.

Senators opposed the participation of Russia as long as it “does not stop its malicious actions against Ukraine, the United States” and of American allies.

the Resolution is already supported by 12 senators. The author of the initiative opposed the proposal of the President of the United States Donald trump to restore the G8 format with Russia in connection with the situation around Ukraine, Afghanistan, and the alleged destabilizing actions of Russia against the United States and other democratic countries around the world.

President of the United States Donald trump in late may announced the decision to postpone the G7 summit in the fall and to invite several third-party States. In addition to Russia, it was about Australia, South Korea and India. The American President explained that, in his opinion, the G7 is a “legacy group” of countries. Against this decision was made by the EU and Canada. Moscow is interested in the invitation.

Russia was in the G8 before the annexation of Crimea in March 2014. After that, the leaders of the other countries of the group of eight (France, UK, USA, Germany, Japan, Italy and Canada) refused to attend the summit in Sochi, after a meeting in Brussels without the participation of Moscow. It was also decided no longer to hold meetings in the G8 format.
