In the analysis of satellite images of the Sahara for astrophysics have discovered in Egypt of a previously unknown crater with a diameter of 327 meters and an area of about 84 thousand square meters.

Preliminary spectral and topographic analysis of the crater, provisionally called “El Bahr”, showed the presence of features characteristic of impact craters, scientists believe that “El Bahr” was formed due to the collision of the planet with an asteroid. But as stated with certainty is only on the basis of satellite imagery impossible, researchers from the Centre for planetary Sciences jointly with the University of Cairo have organized an expedition, which will be in place to examine the crater and ascertain its origin.

It is possible that in the course of the expedition will be able to find pieces of the asteroid or at least traces of the characteristic of impact craters minerals. At least, such a result in 2010, a survey of another, much smaller in diameter, the Egyptian crater — “Camille”. Then the scientists managed to extract from the 45-foot funnel more than 800 kilograms of fragments of an iron meteorite, the diameter of which was supposedly of 1.3 meters.
