In the Russian Orthodox Church urged to refrain from visiting cemeteries at Easter

According to the Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media Legoida, Easter is not a day when you have to go to the cemetery.

Several regions of the Russian Federation announced a ban on visiting cemeteries. In particular, such measures after Moscow imposed in the Crimea, in the Bryansk region, the corresponding decree is being prepared in Tatarstan. All in the sake of security of people in connection with the epidemic of coronavirus.

Today Orthodox Christians celebrate palm Sunday, Monday starts Holy week, which precedes Easter. At this time people usually go to the graves of loved ones. Meanwhile, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church noted that visiting cemeteries is better to abstain.

“as for visiting cemeteries, for this Church Charter sets out the specific days. Easter is such a day is not. So I think, besides the fact that the order of the Moscow authorities on closure of cemeteries for Easter today protects us from the spread of coronavirus, in this case also corresponds to the tradition of the Church,” explained the Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media Vladimir Legoyda.

Representatives of the Orthodox Church called on the faithful not to attend services and pray at home. Also in the ROC said that on the eve of palm Sunday the willow branches – you can consecrate and home.
