The UN must respond to water blockade of the Peninsula from Ukraine, said the Crimean Tatar social activist, Deputy of the Bakhchsarai city Council Ervin Musaev.

Thursday began the meeting of the UN security Council Arria formula on the situation in Crimea. The meeting is being held at the initiative of the permanent mission to the UN. The meeting, according to the Arria formula does not relate directly to the activities of the Security Council and implies consultation, which can invite not only diplomats, but also representatives of non-governmental organizations and the public.

"This topic is rarely performed in the global media. But there is nothing to talk about. In XXI century it is possible to disable the 2.5 million people’s water and electricity? Six years in the Crimea is not water on the North-Crimean channel. All this is contrary to all norms of international law. I am sure that in the UN we need to find resources to solve this problem", – Musayev said during a speech via video conference at a meeting of the security Council.

According to him, the issue of water supply in Crimea should be solved taking into account the fact that the Peninsula is Russian territory.

Ukraine stopped the supply of the Dnieper water in the Crimea after the reunification of the Peninsula with Russia.

Crimea became a Russian region after held there in March 2014 referendum in which 96.77% of voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol voted for joining Russia. Crimean authorities held a referendum after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014. Ukraine still considers Crimea its but temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for reunification with Russia. According to the Russian President, the question of the Crimea "permanently closed".
