One of the stations of the Petersburg underground will be named in honour of football club “Zenit”. The new name will be assigned to the station of Nevsko-Vasileostrovskaya line of Saint Petersburg metro “Novorostovskaya”, the press service of FC “Zenit”.
According to General Director of “Zenit” Alexander Medvedev, the club has taken this initiative last fall, it was supported by the city administration, and today the Toponymic Commission of St.-Petersburg has accepted the decision.
– We thank the city for such a gift, – said Medvedev. – It is symbolic that this happened in the year of the 95th anniversary blue-white-blue and the conquest of the seventh in the history of the club championship.
FC “Zenit” is ready to assume part of the costs, which will require a change on the map in Saint-Petersburg and the scheme of urban underground.
– the Name metro is the city symbol, which helps the residents and guests of St. Petersburg unmistakable and easy to navigate in the urban space, – consider in “Zenith”. In this respect, the name of the metro station “Zenit” is most consonant with the history, present and future of this place.
According to the initiators of renaming, the new name of the station will help including the fans, who in 2021, will attend the matches of the 2020 European Championship, was postponed due to the pandemic in the fashion industry for the year ahead.
