– This is my fifth book, but not the first, which is dedicated to a charismatic leader of group “Cinema”, – said at a press conference by the author. Is a novel about time travel. The purpose of the salvation of Victor Tsoi is the main theme of the book, is built around this whole story, but also reflected other issues. For example, the Holocaust, the Nazi crimes in Riga, committed during the great Patriotic war, or the issue of the authorship of the famous “Chronicle of Livonia”, an imperishable literary monument of the middle ages that has survived to our days from the depths of the XIII century. What prompted the writing? A chance meeting with Igor Pokrovsky in 2007, on Nevsky prospect.
– Yes, we were sitting in a cafe, I told you the story, as seen with Victor for the last time. This meeting took place in Riga, for me it is mystical, – says Basil. – June 1990. I wasn’t supposed to be in Riga, we were supposed to meet. I learned that the tape that I needed, sold in Riga. A casual friend invited me to go with him to Riga. There I happen to know that in this day concert “Movie” at the stadium “Daugava”. And we go to this concert. Meet Vitya who was very surprised that I was there. It was the end of the tour, he was very tired, it was obvious. “I have no idea how all of this got me” – he said in my ear. Agreed to meet in August in St. Petersburg, but this meeting became a funeral, and buried Tsoi in a closed coffin.
– At that time I just wrote a screenplay for a feature film “Choi. Black square” after talking with many people who knew Victor, – said Alexander Dolgov. – The burden of fame that struck Tsoi, felt it laid on his shoulders, and he was in a depressed state. When Pokrovsky told me this story, I decided that my novel will be a character named Igor Pinochet. He acts as a liaison between the Victor and the main characters of the books “the Riga club of chronoportation” and “Save Tsoi”. By the way, Pinochet was the only one in the entourage of Viktor kept him warm and friendly relations to the end, until death.
