The Commissioner of the German government on data protection matters Ulrich Kelber cautioned the Federal government from using the WhatsApp messenger. He explained that when sending messages the messenger obtains metadata that is then sent to Facebook.

The company as a result can obtain the IP address of the sender and its location and information about the smartphone user.

According to the newspaper Handelsblatt, the representative of the WhatsApp has denied the transfer of data to the company Facebook.

WhatsApp cannot read the messages because they are encrypted by default, he said.

As previously wrote NEWS.ru the company Facebook has released a new Discover service. According to the company, it should help users who cannot afford to obtain information through the Internet.
