a Gerhard Schroeder stressed that cooperation with Moscow is especially necessary in difficult economic situation against the background of the pandemic coronavirus.

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in an interview with Tagesspiegel voted for the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions from the EU. He stressed that cooperation with Moscow is especially necessary in difficult economic situation against the background of the pandemic coronavirus.

Schroeder, speaking about the Second world war, was named the most valuable Russia’s readiness to cooperate with the new Germany in the spirit of trust, “despite the terrible past.”

“That we support sanctions against Russia, is at odds with this. First, they awaken in Russian historical memory, and secondly — do not change Russian policy. Right now, when because of the crisis in connection with the coronavirus we expect difficult economic times, we need more cooperation. Therefore meaningless sanctions should be lifted”, — said the former Chancellor.

He emphasized the fallacy of the position of Western countries, believes that “through sanctions to force Russia to do anything”.

Schroeder, speaking about the situation in the East of Ukraine, said that peaceful coexistence is possible only there, “if Ukraine becomes a Federal state, in which the East will get more autonomy.”
