You are participating in the project a second time. How it is changing – artistically, organizationally?

Sofya Gaidukova: the Second time I work as a curator, but she had watched him before. Before that, I was not associated with the world of television, but here I had to play the role of a person who is in the team of broadcasters who oversees all ballet issues. Had come to understand that “Big ballet” is not a theater, not a play, not a professional ballet competition, it’s a TV show, though aired on the channel “Culture”, with its own laws. And so it didn’t break the specifics of ballet, and I was invited. Together we develop and discuss.

have you Changed this year in terms of “Big ballet”?

Sofya Gaidukova: We wanted to expand the repertoire. We have six competitive programs, that is, each couple dancing six rooms. Five of these are duets and one solo program, where children show one variation or number. If we had set fairly stringent conditions – each issue was dedicated or classical pas de Deux, or the Soviet choreography, this time can be mixed in one issue of classical and neoclassical ballet and modern dance, and even folk-character. One of the evenings devoted to the modern Russian choreography, one foreign. Theme one program: it is dedicated to the romantic ballet. But it is the not narrow, as the direction of the mid-nineteenth century, but as a theme that runs through the whole history of ballet. Affected and postromanticism ballet presented by the “Sylphides” and the Adagio from the film “Sleep” in “Raymonda”. We have a pas de Deux from “Butterfly” staged by the young canadian choreographer Peter Kwanza – it turns out that the story is romantic, but the choreography young choreographer today, made on a classic basis. The jury (this year it includes Diana Vishneva, Farukh Ruzimatov, Alexey Miroshnichenko and Denis Matvienko) will be hard to compare will have 32 fouettes and “felting on the floor” as they say sometimes about modern dance. But this show, and the audience more interesting to watch a diverse program, not seven pas de Deux from “the Sleeping beauty” for the evening. Participants also this gives you the opportunity to show themselves every evening in a new way: today pack, tomorrow barefoot, the next day with her hair in leotard and Pointe shoes. But many of our repertoire of ideas not embodied: foreign choreographers are unable to come because of the pandemic, all the preparation has been reduced – the guys were allowed to start practicing since June 1, the whole program was little more than a month, the modern programme had to cook with zoom, so we tried to facilitate their task and to at least partially select what they already danced before.

What other limitations imposed on the now��tions project mode of isolation?

Sofya Gaidukova: All thought for a long time when no one knew nothing about the coronavirus. We selected theaters, has watched participants even in the winter. When she moved to isolation, immediately began to discuss the conditions under which can be a project. This time we participate almost exclusively regional theatres, and outside the capitals were not so complicated quarantine measures. Managers of theaters were going to meet, and for a couple participants, teachers and accompanists opened rehearsal rooms. Of course, still it was difficult to get out: weaving workshop, which had to prepare the suits everywhere were in holidays, musical parts, without which not to record a soundtrack, also did not work. But the theaters did everything possible to prepare their artists. Unfortunately, it was impossible to do in Moscow, and in our project this time will not be scheduled a pair of Large, not involved in the Theater of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko. But still managed to prepare representatives of the Mariinsky theatre. But when people came after months of isolation and began an intensive rehearsal, several pairs took off due to injuries, the composition of participants changed in the course of. In total, we had eight pairs instead of seven. Three of them partners in the competition is not involved, but it can also be viewed as a bonus – thus in the “Big ballet” can be seen leading soloists, even honoured artists of Russia. Almost all are theaters that have not yet participated in the “Big ballet”: Ulan-Ude, Voronezh, Syktyvkar, Ufa, Saratov. We expect a new viewer that will be cheering for their representatives. And once the project will be aired, I think the audience in these cities will run in their theatres, to live to see those who represented them in Moscow.

During the filming, too, will be any restrictions?

Sofya Gaidukova: All crew were tested for the participants, the laboratory was organized directly at the hotel. On “Mosfilm” everywhere apart sanitizer, masks, and each participant’s personal dressing room and makeup artist. Everybody’s very excited. At a time when the whole world is with Mar sitting without theater, our people have a lot of work in a big project that will soon see the whole country.
