A violent crime occurred in Berlin-Lichtenberg on Sunday morning. A man attacked his wife with an ax and then attacked the arriving police officers. They shot him.

A man killed a woman with an ax in Berlin-Lichtenberg. The perpetrator was shot dead by police officers who wanted to stop him. When the police arrived on Löwenberger Strasse, the man hit a woman lying on the ground with an axe, police spokesman Martin Dams said on Sunday. The police then fired shots at the man, fatally injuring him. The woman also succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The police were initially unable to provide any information on the exact identity of the two. The act happened on Sunday morning shortly before 8 a.m., a homicide commission is investigating.
