“First, the city administration said that the monument cannot be set due to… of the law on the protection of monuments… a similar position, according to our information, was made by the mayor himself, but we went to court, who said that the statue, of course, can be installed”, – quotes the official representative mlpg Peter Weispfenning RIA Novosti. According to him, the city administration tried to contact also the Higher administrative court of North Rhine-Westphalia, but that the claim of the authorities was rejected.

Established in Gelsenkirchen, the statue is not new – it was cast in 1957 in Czechoslovakia. German Communists… bought it on eBay from a seller from Austria, to which the monument came after the “velvet revolution” in Czechoslovakia in 1989. As shown by mlpg a survey among local residents, as many as 68 respondents were in favour of the installation of the statue, said Weispfenning. Before that only 204 people across the country have signed an online petition against the CDU of the monument. In mlpg emphasize that this is the first monument to Lenin established in West Germany.
