An international group of scientists has determined that the coronavirus infection COVID-19 especially dangerous for people who have recovered from cancer or is still sick with cancer. Specialist papers published in the Lancet.
The researchers analyzed new data on 928 men with cancer who contracted the coronavirus in the United States, Canada, the UK and Spain. Half of them were hospitalized, and 13 percent died. This figure is greater than in the General population. In the second study involving 800 British with various types of cancer and COVID-19 was detected a higher mortality rate equal to 28 percent.
To the greatest extent for coronavirus infection were vulnerable men, the mortality rate reaches 17 percent (females nine per cent). This can be partly explained by the fact that women often get breast cancer, but they are younger and have, on average, less chronic diseases.
Every year in the U.S. alone, more than 1.6 million diagnosed cancer patients currently on treatment there are several million Americans and 20 million recovered from cancer. According to the findings of scientists, people from this population should make every effort to avoid SARS-CoV-2.
