MOSCOW, may 8 — RAPSI. the Council under RF President on development of civil society and human rights (HRC) has appealed to the head of the General Prosecutor’s office for the Central Federal district Murat Kabaloev with a request to check the legality and validity of removal of memorial plaques in memory of victims of political repression in Tver, according to press service Agency.

Earlier, the facade of the Tver state medical University (the former building of the NKVD in Kalinin region) there were two plaques, installed in 1991 in memory of the victims of political repression. According to the Council, the dismantling was carried out under the decision of the Prosecutor of the Central district of Tver.

“the Council is deeply concerned about this information because in the view (the Prosecutor’s office — approx. ed.) does not contain convincing arguments regarding the necessity of dismantling plaques, especially on the eve of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the great Patriotic war. The decision of the authorities of the city of Kalinin 1991 about installing tablets continues to operate, prosecutors have not taken any measures for its abolition”, — is spoken in the message of the HRC.

In this regard, the Council requests to pay attention to the situation and charging to check the legality and validity of actions of Prosecutor’s office of the Central district of Tver city.
