This river, which is outside of the district, few people know, flows through the village of Zelenograd near several SNT. Who lived near the pond, knows that it’s for the pleasure to have a cottage on the river Bank. Then you and morning fishing, which is literally two steps, and water to relax after a busy summer day. And next to the river always easier to bear the heat and grows best yield.
But last year Skalba suddenly deteriorated. In some areas start to dry, to bloom and to smell bad. Activists of the local residents quickly found the cause – breakthrough pressure of the local water utility. “Meanwhile, as we found an accident, and how it was destroyed, last week,” recalls activist Alexei Simonov. Why so long? But I could not find the extreme, all services are nodding at each other. While there was a finding of responsible persons, concerned citizens found a few more neighbors-gardeners, who under the guise of brought in Scalby and your sewage. Activists are not lazy and took samples of water and soil for analysis to the testing center of the University, whence soon came the disappointing answer: the maximum allowable concentration of harmful substances in the mire from the bottom of the river is exceeded three times. And the water quality worse than the drains – it cannot be used for fishing, either for domestic use or for swimming.
Then the residents have thrown a call: let’s clear Skalba! Save the river has left more than 100 people, including local officials. From the riverbed were removed dozens of trash bags, the bottom is cleaned with the help of technology. “The water in the river was black, the bottom cannot be seen. And the smell was – not to pass! The persistent sewage smell I couldn’t wash hands for two days” – says Pushkin Deputy Yevgeny Motorin. But Skalba after the harvest flowed more fun, it was noted by all.
This summer, the activists decided to continue cleaning the river. This time had to clear a small 600-meter, but inaccessible stretch of coastline. In one place there was an underwater graveyard of rotting logs and boards, and in the other a spontaneous dump of old tires. And even the rain began, not to add a comfort work. However, an impromptu work day, no one left while under all superficial stuff is not dug up finally the river itself. Worked just like last time, all together – and gardeners, and the citizens and officials of tourism administrations, and the deputies, which again was Yevgeny Motorin, Minister of ecology and nature management of the Moscow region Pavel Bida.
“I Invited the guys from the initiative group, I gladly agreed to help,” explained Bida its appearance on the Scale. According to him, this river will be included in the regional program of rehabilitation of rivers, which has given second life to many suburban reservoirs. This will allow for further purification of the river not only by activists. Actually Skalba is not a list of waterbodies in need of priority rehabilitation, so initially in the program it is not included. But the initiative of the residents found a response in bureaucratic offices. Are unable their inhabitants indifferently watch as Pushkin activists gather dozens of people for the sake of the river. Especially since the illicit discharge of sewage urging citizens to solve and failed: according to the regional Ministry of environment, in the towns of Zelenograd and Forestry discovered 10 illegal water discharges from private households and SNT.

In the field there is a social movement for “Environmental SUP-patrol”. Activists on the boards for standup paddleboarding are moving on the water, collecting the garbage there, where it is difficult to pull out from the shore. Combine, so to say, with pleasure: sports, admire the views from the water, and at the same time benefit the environment. The organizer of the patrol Sergey Glukhov said that the idea to collect the garbage on the alloys at first it seemed a failure. But, to the surprise of the activists, wanting more than enough, many come with their families and children. People want to learn SAP-boards, which, by the way, you can not buy and get a swim, the organizers of ekosplav and at the same time to do a good deed. “Before the swim conduct mandatory training where it is stressed that you can not collect more than one 100-liter garbage bag so as not to overload the Board. This time brought a full car trailer, reviewing only three of the 19 piles. The rest are waiting for us,” says Glukhov. According to the volunteer, newcomers always finish the race with a lot of positive emotions and full bags of waste. Unfortunately, the beautiful suburban river in many places very messy.
One enterprising citizen of Balashikha decided that the local body of water called St. Nicholas ditch prevents a comfortable passage to his country station. Without thinking, the citizen took and hid the reservoir into the pipe, over which was built a new entrance. As a result, the Nikolskaya ditch changed its course and flowed into the water conservation area, where the washed off soils. In the situation were forced to intervene inspectors econadzor, a citizen came to a large fine and was forced to return the river back.
