As nice as the Eintracht stars’ European Cup reception was, it now has serious consequences. The police initiated criminal proceedings against some Frankfurt players after pyrotechnics were ignited.

Escalation: The players Timothy Chandler, Gonçalo Paciência and Aymen Barkok from Eintracht Frankfurt celebrated the victory of the Europa League at the Römer, the city hall, with pyrotechnics, whereupon police spokesman Thomas Hollerbach announced to “Bild”: “We have the events documented and appropriate criminal proceedings initiated.”

Two options: The Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office is now determining whether the “initial suspicion of a criminal offense then persists or whether administrative offense proceedings are ending”. A prior assessment cannot be made, since the legal assessment is carried out solely by the public prosecutor’s office.

Achievements: Winning the European Cup is Eintracht’s second international title in the club’s history. They not only play in the UEFA Super Cup against the winner of this year’s Champions League, but also in the premier class next season.
