MOSCOW, 30 Jul – RIA Novosti. A group of scientists from Italy and Russia offered more frequently to create on the territories of the sandy beaches of the protected area, the entrance to which tourists would be closed, according to Europulse.

Examining the Sands of the beaches of the Italian island of Asinara, the researchers found 640 new species of invertebrates: crustaceans, molluscs, worms and other representatives of the microscopic fauna. Their number strongly depended on the intensity of the tourist flow: shallow water crowded beaches they turned out to be 10 percent less than where the tourists do not exist.

the Study was published in the scientific journal Biology Communications.

to discover new species, scientists first used the method of DNA extraction for invertebrates – previously it was only used to search for bacteria. It turned out that the new species live in shallow waters, sandy beaches, pebbly or rocky they are not met.

Scientists believe that in fact the diversity of microscopic animals on the sandy beaches can be even richer. From these organisms is likely to rely heavily on the rest of the inhabitants of the coastal waters, as they form one food chain.

Experts recommend for long-term recovery of biodiversity to completely cover a small area from tourists. Temporary decline in the number of tourists due to pandemic coronavirus unlikely to allow microscopic invertebrates to recover in the most popular places.
