Young people should take the same precautions to protect themselves as everyone else, said the head of the who, speaking to reporters. “We’ve said it before and say it again: young people are not invincible. Young people can be infected, young people can die and young people can transmit the virus to others,” – said General Director of the organization.

At the request of the “RG” position of who in relation to our country commented on the deserved doctor of Russia Mikhail Kagan.

what, do you think that a new surge of the epidemic predicted for the autumn?

Michael Hagan: I think the surge is real, because, in my opinion, it is obvious that in the population remains relatively high proportion of people without immunity, and sensitive to the virus. Its role here can play not only the onset of cold autumn weather favorable for the spread of any respiratory virus, but also emerging in September, the resumption of full-time study in schools and universities. This will lead to the accumulation of large groups of young people, and many return to capital higher education institutions to their regions, where the epidemic situation is at this point more serious than in Moscow. I agree with the view expressed by the who that the young people are the main carriers of the virus due to high mobility and, often, neglect of respect for social distance and use of personal protective equipment.

Probably the increasing reports of an increased proportion of cases among people of young age are just associated with the irresponsibility of many young people?

Michael Hagan: actually, according to the reports of the various countries it is obvious that the analysis of cases that have occurred over the past month, compared to those that occurred in the previous months, there is a large proportion of hospitalizations of young people. And this may be due to a number of circumstances. As those of which we have already spoken – of neglect of preventive measures, and the fact that older people are actually better young can hear and understand the warning that they are high-risk and must take more precautions. Thus, it is possible that we are now seeing a smaller share of infections in the elderly, in particular, and because they largely follow the preventive recommendations of physicians and therefore less likely to become infected.

So, after a month and a half have to wait for the second wave COVID-19 in Russia?

Michael Hagan: I think that in our country the definition of waves is not quite appropriate and confusing, as in order to correctly talk about the second wave should finally lto queerbate first. That is, the flash should subside to almost zero, in which case a new increase in the number of cases can be considered the second wave. So, for example, is happening now in the countries of South-East Asia, Israel, and some European countries. In Russia, however, until the first wave is still here.

the fact that in our country the epidemic in different regions started at different times. It all started in Moscow, in regions much later, so now different regions of the country are experiencing different stages. And if in Moscow there has been a clear decline in many regions, while we are talking only about a possible exit on a plateau, which may last several months. And all this in the first wave. We therefore correct to speak not about the second wave, and about a possible new surge of the disease in spite of the first wave.
