A 55-year-old woman fell fatally while climbing in the Alps near Oberammergau. She was part of a climbing group that was undergoing training.

A woman fell while climbing in Upper Bavaria and died from her serious injuries. She was with a group as part of a climbing training course in the “Frauenwasserl” climbing area near Oberammergau, the police said.

The 55-year-old from North Rhine-Westphalia climbed in the lead, i.e. as the first of the group. She fell on Saturday morning without any external influence and was fatally injured. Mountain guides who had arrived on a rocky ledge initiated the resuscitation of the seriously injured woman. Nevertheless, she died at the scene of the accident.

The group should practice so-called multi-pitch climbing. Two mountain guides from the Alpine task force took over the accident recording. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is currently ongoing. Further details were initially not known on Sunday afternoon.
