Scientists at the University of Washington revealed that the reason life expectancy in a hundred years, is determined not only by genes, but where the person lives. This was reported in an article published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

The researchers analyzed data on place of residence, level of education and marital status 145 thousand people who died at the age of 75 years and older in the period from 2011 to 2015. In addition, consideration was given to such environmental factors as poverty, access to transportation and medical care, the percentage of the working age population, air pollution and the amount of green space. Thus, were able to determine what living conditions contributed to a century of age.

It turned out that the ability to walk around the neighborhood (it promotes physical activity and easy access to grocery stores and hospitals), high socio-economic status and a high percentage of the working age population is positively correlated with a long life span. In addition, the researchers found a difference between the sexes: women are more likely to live to a hundred years.
