Scientists of the University of Nicosia in Cyprus has revealed that medical masks do not provide complete protection against the coronavirus that causes frequent cough, due to which their effectiveness is reduced. About it reported in a press release on EurekAlert!.

Using computer models, researchers tracked the spread of fine droplets released into the air during coughing and sneezing in the case that the person put on a mask. The experts have already shown that without a mask droplets of saliva can fly 5.5 meters in five seconds. The results of the new studies have demonstrated that the mask really hinders the spreading of drops, but its true ability to filter deteriorates at a constant coughing when one is ill.

Even while wearing the mask drops may move a distance up to one meter with a light cough. This personal protective equipment can eliminate the spread of liquid particles of different sizes. According to scientists, it shows that social distancing remains the main way to prevent infection.
