High blood sugar doubles the risk of death from severe forms of the coronavirus, even if the patient is not suffering from diabetes or obesity. To such conclusion the doctors Huajumbaro University of science and technology (China).

“Our observations showed that elevated levels of glucose in the blood at the time of hospitalization itself was associated with an increased risk of death or development of complications associated with COVID-19” — said in a study published in the scientific journal Diabetologia [quoted by TASS].

Scientists claim that people with an average amount of sugar in the blood of dying by 71% more often than other patients. And it was not associated with development of obesity, diabetes or other metabolic disorders. In this regard, doctors recommend each patient with a coronavirus tests on sugar levels and also start a large-scale study of such pattern. Doctors suggest that excess of glucose can contribute to the formation of blood clots and inflammation.
