the Famous orientalist, academician Yevgeny Chelyshev, died today in Moscow at the age of 98 years. About it reports “Interfax” with reference to Institute of Oriental studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Chelyshev was one of the world’s most famous specialists in culture and literature of India and was considered one of the founders of the Soviet and Russian school of Eastern studies, modern literature and culture. He has written over a dozen books and several hundred scientific articles on Indology, comparative literature, cultural studies, on the problems of Russian culture in the global context.

Chelyshev was born 27 Oct 1921 in Moscow, in 1939 he was drafted into the army, and on 24 June 1945 participated in the Parade of winners on the red square. “I, Lieutenant, stood on the red square, and then passed to the marching columns past the Mausoleum, where Stalin was, Zhukov, Rokossovsky, all our command. After the war he entered the Military Institute of foreign languages of the red Army, he defended his dissertation on “Contemporary socio-political terminology of literary Hindi (press release in Hindi)”. For many years he worked at the Institute of Oriental studies, USSR Academy of Sciences, was head of specialized Department at MGIMO.
